Pitcher

A pitcher (English, late 19th century) produced by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons. Decorated in the Japonesque style, the majolica pitcher has a strap handle in the form of a branch and is decorated on the exterior with raised relief fans in brown trimmed with yellow alternating with four birds perched on cherry blossom branches against a white/cream ground. The base of the pitcher is glazed in brown, and the interior is glazed in turquoise. The underside is impressed “WEDGWOOD”, along with a partially pressed three-letter date code (the first two letters appear to be “FF”), “12”, an unintelligible mark, a raised diamond registry mark, and is hand numbered in red underglaze “M / 2462 / v”.
