Description
A cloisonné enamel egg (Russian, mid-late 20th century) by an unknown maker, the design of the egg is after the Spring Flower Egg attributed to Peter Carl Fabergé (1846-1920). The exterior of the hinged egg on stand is decorated on both sides in enamels in tones of light blue, cobalt, white, and with hints of purple/red with a flower head/star pattern central medallion surrounded by scrolling foliage on a light blue ground. The opening of the egg is edged in silver gilt set with a band of rhinestones and topped by a raised clasp. The egg opens to reveal a flower basket of white anemones, the enamel decoration on the basket matches the exterior egg decoration. The interior of the egg is coated in purple enamel. The egg is supported on a silver gilt stand ending in a circular acanthus leaf base raised on two stepped circular tiers of white onyx (marble). The second tier of the base is surrounded by a band of rhinestones and the bottom tier ends in scrolling gilt metal acanthus leaves.
