Description
An enamel cloisonné egg (Russian, early 20th century) attributed to Nikolay Kemper (Russian, active 1893-1918). The top of the egg is monogrammed “XB” in cobalt blue enamel, the body is decorated in a traditional Russian geometric floral motif in tones of light blue, cobalt blue, green, orange, and white set in a gilt ground. The egg sits on a pedestal base decorated with floral enamel decoration in tones of blue, green, and white. The egg twists open to reveal a hollow gilt wash interior, the interior is stamped with a Cyrillic “HK” which may be Nikolay Kemper’s hallmark, an “84” quality mark, and an unidentified city mark (possibly Moscow).
