Description
A cloisonné enamel egg on stand (Russian, Moscow, 1908-1917) by Maria Semenova (Russian, active 1896-1917). The is egg topped by a cabochon stone surrounded by enamel flower petals, the upper decoration of the egg is dominated by medallion scenes of swans floating on blue waves surrounded by a repeating scrolling pattern of silver gilt set against light blue enamel, this pattern continues on the bottom portion of the egg along with blue and green foliage around the base. The egg twists open to reveal a hollow gilt wash interior, the bottom of the interior is stamped with the 1908-1926 Moscow kokoshnik mark, the top is stamped with this same mark along with the Cyrillic “MC” maker’s mark for Maria Semenova. The whole is raised on a three-legged stand, the legs end in hoof feet.
