Description
An ewer and plate (Italian, 19th century) composed of brightly colored faience with luster glaze. The yellow spout of the ewer is in the form of a bearded face and the scrolled handle resembles a serpent, a geometric design decorates the shoulder, the upper part of the body is painted with a band of griffins holding heraldic shields and scrolling foliage against a white ground, the lower part of the body is gadrooned and leads to the pedestal base ending in a circular foot. The underplate is decorated around the rim with a large band of figures flanking heraldic shields surrounded by scrolling foliage against a dark blue ground, the central reserve is white.
