Description
An Adam style painted satinwood sewing table (English, c. 1900) with a domed, hinged lid above a frieze containing one dummy drawer above a real drawer. The top is painted with a family of peasants in a landscape setting within an oval and floral vine border; the front, sides and back are painted with floral garlands tied with crinkled bows. The stand has a scalloped apron design that is painted with floral sprigs and is supported on four square legs painted with vertical floral vines that end in splayed feet. The legs are joined by a low platform stretcher with concave sides that are decorated with a checkerboard pattern inlay, the top of the stretcher is painted with a floral garland.
