Description
A figure of a cockatoo (German, c. 1910) produced by the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory . The porcelain figurine is inspired by a model by Johann Joachim Kändler (German, 1706-1775), who was known to copy from live birds. The cockatoo has white and red plumage with grey claws and is perched on a tall tree stump with clumps of green grass, heightened in gilding. The underside of the base is marked in blue underglaze with two crossed swords, in addition it is marked in gilt "72", impressed with "121", and incised with what appears to be "576".
