Description
A six-panel table screen (Chinese, Qing Dynasty, c. 1800) in hung-mu frames made of painted silk panels and inlaid finely carved and tinted soapstone. The scenes on each panel depict interactions between the carved figures. The first and second panels show a woman mounted on a horse approaching a bridge while an older man walks by and two figures playing with a ball in a courtyard. The third and fourth panels depict a woman offering a cup to a man in a courtyard and two women with a kneeling man in a garden. The fifth and sixth panels have a bearded man playing cymbals in a garden with a young couple, and a man kneeling in front of two women--- one of who is holding a sword. Each of the panels can be slid up to reveal an erotic hidden panel behind it.
