Description
A hand-painted jewelry box (Chinese, c. 1900). The entirety of the box is decorated with garden scenes. The hinged lid features a Chinese woman seated on a blue and green garden seat playing a flute near a fence and red column. The front of the box depicts a Chinese woman strolling through a garden with a fan in her left hand on a wooden plank walkway. The box can be locked by a hinged circular brass clasp and mount which is inscribed with stylized flowers, the sides also include brass bail handles on each side. The interior of the box is lined with blue cotton and the underside is inscribed in red “ MADE IN CHINA”.
