A portrait miniature of Thomas Robinson Hunter (French, 1831) attributed to Savinien Edmé Dubourjal (French, 1795-1865). Hunter is depicted wearing a blue double-breasted jacket, a high black collar, and wears his hair parted on the side with long sideburns. The oil and watercolor on ivory miniature is displayed in contemporary Neo-Greco gilt bronze frame with modern easel back.
Thomas Robinson Hunter, son of Sen. William Hunter and Mary Robinson, graduated from Brown University in 1827 and then traveled to France for several years in the late 1820s and early 1830s, where he visited his aunts. This miniature was likely produced during one of these visits.
