Description
A lacquer sewing table (Chinese, 19th century) with gold decorations. The table has a rectangular hinged top, which opens to three shallow sections. Two turned columnar legs support the table and end in carved shells and pawed feet. The entire piece is intricately painted with gold designs of pagodas, boatmen, figures, and foliage. Both the inside and top of the lid is accented with red detailing and framed by dragons, while the top has the initials “J.L” in script at center.
