Description
A fire screen (American, late 19th century) made of ebonized wood and embroidery. The rectangular ebonized wood frame consists of rosette and leaf cluster cut-out carvings that peak at center top in a stylized enclosed maple leaf. Gilt accents are found within the rosettes, top rail, and legs. Two inverted Y-leg supports are attached to a stretcher which the screen pivots from. The screen is decorated with gold ground embroidery with a bird perched in the center of green, white, and brown flowering branches.
