Description
A double joined square box (Japanese, 19th century) made of lacquer. The two squares overlap one another, creating a joined effect. The lid of the box has a different design on each square, both of which are landscape scenes. The left is decorated with a sunrise at sea with cranes flying overhead boats. The right side is decorated with a mountain scene with cranes flying down by the top of the mountain and a flourishing valley in the foreground.
