Description
An Indian genre scene painted with oil on board. The heavily varnished piece consists of three different panels, each depicting their own scene. The first scene consists of a kneeling woman accepting a cup from a man’s hand. Candles and bottles are around the platform they kneel upon, while an older woman bows her head and kneels behind them. A grand window frames the scene, with trees and other foliage below what is either the sun or the moon. The second scene includes the same man and woman from the first. They stand in the center of a room and are attended by four other people. Behind them is a large window looking out into a garden. The final scene has the woman kneeling in the center of the room, a man holds her arm as she offers a small cup to another woman at her left side. A small child plays with the hem of her dress while two women play instruments in the foreground. The window in thew back overlooks the same garden as the second scene.
