A Rococo repoussé pill box (French, c. 1880) made of silver with interior vermeil wash. The rounded square body of the box is topped with a richly decorated square hinged lid. Raised upon a circular cartouche is the monogram “MGK” (Maud Gwendolen King, 1876-1968) in script. Surrounding the monogram is a frame of fruits and flowering vines while a lit torch and quiver of arrows lay at the bottom of the cartouche. The bombe sides of the box feature swags of flowers separated by acanthus leaf corners and a bottom trim of Vitruvian scrolling. Two very small marks are stamped into the side of the lid, above the pearling border. Both marks are worn and illegible.
