Description
A snuff box (Dutch, dated 1849) made of silver. The inverted dome-shaped lid rests above a conforming rectangular body. Decorating the box is a series of overall horizontal banding and an overlaid heart-shaped shield in the upper center of the face. Stamped into the bottom of the box is the Dutch passant lion and an obscured maker’s mark that may read “PL / 44”. A date letter of “P” is stamped into the interior rim of the body, dating the piece as being made in 1849.
