Pair of Allegorical Figures Representing the Allied Arts and Architecture

A pair of patinated cast bronze allegorical figures representing the Allied Arts and Architecture (American, c. 1898-1899) by Daniel Chester French. "Architecture" (PSNC.9827.1) is represented as a classically-clad female figure with sash and diadem holding a model of Richard Morris Hunt's Administration Building designed for the Chicago Columbian Exposition of 1893. The "Allied Arts" are represented as a classically clad female figure bearing a palette and a sculptor's mallet. Both maquettes were cast from lost wax models by the Roman Bronze Works in New York, "Architecture" is dated 1898 and "Allied Arts" is dated 1899, and both are marked with "Roman Bronze Works, N.Y." and "D.C.F." The figures were designed as flanking allegories for the memorial to Richard Morris Hunt (designed by architect Bruce Price) at Fifth Avenue at 70th Street, New York, NY.
