Description
A Louis XVI three-colored gold, enamel and agate oval snuff box (French, 1781) made by Pierre-Francois Drais in Paris. The sides decorated in neo classical style with panels, pilasters draped with garlands, and stylized borders, the rim with a border of ovals and acanthus leaves. The cover mounted with four pale-grown agate panels and inset with an oval medallion painted in sepia camaieu with Venus disarming Cupid after French painter François Boucher. Struck with the poinçons of Henri Clavel, and marked again for 1819-38.
