Description
Portrait bust of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt (American, 1853) by Hiram Powers. Signed on the reverse "H. Powers Sculp." Commodore Vanderbilt is depicted in classical garb with a toga draped around his shoulders, his head turned slightly to the left. On turned socle and cylindrical sienna marble pedestal with rectangular base. Commodore Vanderbilt commissioned the bust from Hiram Powers during his 1853 European trip aboard the yacht "North Star."
