Description
A rosewood table (c. 1840) with an inlaid mosaic and specimen top (c. 1820-70) composed of marbles, malachite, onyx, slate, agate, jasper, and additional stones. The center medallion depicts a grand tour scene of the Roman forum, the border is decorated with an unusual small mosaic bouquet of forget-me-nots. The circular frieze of the stand is decorated with carved scrolling foliage and rests on a triangular plinth carved with dogs heads. The shaped tripod legs carved are with foliage. Base attributed to Alexander Roux, mosaic top purchased later in Rome.
