Description
A circa 1730 Newport silver porringer by Samuel Vernon. The single triangular applied tab openwork handle engraved "B/A*E", the shallow round bowl with flared, bent rim and raised dome in center of bottom; the base engraved "M*B", monograms refer to Abraham (1690-1732) and Elizabeth Borden of Newport;, Abraham served as a treasurer of the colony; the second monogram refers likely to their son Matthew (b.1711), who married Sarah Whipple of Newport.
