Full-length portrait of a young Charles, Prince of Wales (1630–1685), in court costume - lace collar, buff coat, brocade pants, puffed and slashed sleeves, and dress sword - holding a large hat with plume.
Notes
This painting later served as the model for a widely circulated engraved portrait of the prince, asserting his rightful place on the throne as Charles II (by Wenceslaus Hollar, 1649; Pennington 1442 iii/vii; New Hollstein [Hollar part IV] 1064 II/VI).
