Notes
Beacon Rock was designed in 1887 by Stanford White, for Commodore Edwin D. Morgan. It was referred to as "the Acropolis of Newport." Morgan served as commodore at the New York Yacht Club and owned one of the America's Cup defenders, which he kept at Beacon Rock. In 1921 the estate was purchased by Captain and Marion Eppley and in 1951 the new owner was world-renowned sculptor Felix de Weldon. Several states of this etching exist; Drury, like etchers going back to Rembrandt, reworked his plates.
