Notes
Donna Bruton described her painting as based in abstract expressionism, with which she certainly became familiar while obtaining her MFA in painting from Yale. However, her background as a color and fabric designer comes to play in her much of her work in which she embraced a collage technique that conjoins abstract patterns to create texture. In doing so she let her hand and her eye rule, unconsciously creating pictures that evoked memories and feelings. Bruton was a painting professor at the Rhode Island School of Design for eighteen years. She was part of NetWorks 2010.
