An oil on canvas portrait painted by Cosmo Alexander (Scottish, 1724-1772) of Deborah Malbone Hunter (1738-1813) and her daughter Eliza (1762-1849) depicted in half length and in full frontal view (Scotland, dated 1769). Mrs. Hunter is seated, facing left wearing a white silk dress with lace accents, her right arm around the shoulder of her young daughter Eliza, the two joining their left hands. Eliza is standing and wears a yellow silk dress also with lace accents. The piece sits in a contemporary giltwood frame applied with bands of ropework, acanthus leaves and gadrooning.
