Description
A Regency style walnut fire screen (French, c. 1715 - 1750). The screen has a c. 1750 removable Louis XV silk Venetian brocade panel depicting a flowering vine motif enclosed by a rectangular frame. The top rail is carved with acanthus clad S-scrolls centering on a shell motif. The S-scroll sides are carved with bellflowers, scrolling foliage, and small flowerheads. The whole is raised on trestle supports of carved scrolls and foliage terminating in paw feet.
