Description
Desk: interior has blocked drawer fronts and carved shells; bookcase shelves have ogee dividers. Ogee bracket feet, ogee pediment with closed bonnet. Bookcase has two paneled doors. Note: on top of desk, below bookcase, are signatures of Cozzens family, difficult to read. Probably commissioned by Matthew Cozzens from Job Townsend; see accession folder. Cozzens (1728-1799) was Newport merchant. Desk was later owned by Newport mayor and Rhode Island Governor William Cole Cozzens, then author James Gould Cozzens.
