Description
Michele Felice Corné (c. 1752-1845) fled to Massachusetts from Italy in 1799 to escape the Napoleonic Wars. He painted primarily in Massachusetts before settling in Newport in 1822. He is known for his marine and panoramic paintings, most notably the Sullivan Dorr House in Providence, RI, in which he painted an enormous (80 feet by 20 feet) fresco of the Bay of Naples.
