Description
William Henry Seward (1801-1872) served as Governor of New York and was a United States Senator. During his tenure as Secretary of State for President Andrew Johnson, he was responsible for the purchase of Alaska in 1867. William Henry Seward was seriously wounded by Lewis Powell in 1865 as part of the conspiracy that led to the death of President Lincoln.
